Personal Bookkeeping Services
My Accountant, Inc. provides personal bookkeeping services for busy individuals, corporate executives, family offices, entertainers, and the elderly. Founded in 1987 by Norb Janis and Bill Farren, we have developed a unique practice assisting clients in 22 states and several foreign countries.
While our headquarters are located in Trumbull, Connecticut, the majority of our clients are located in New York City, Virginia, and Florida. With the availability of express mail and overnight delivery services, the location of our clients is no longer a factor.
Personal service is at the heart of our business. When clients call with a question, or need information on just about any aspect of their financial lives, they speak to a trained professional with immediate access to detailed information which, in several cases, goes back almost twenty years.
This is of particular value in situations where home improvements have been performed over a period of years. Our detailed records provide information which can save clients tens of thousands of dollars in capital gains taxes upon the sale of a residence.

How it Works
1. You send us the bills, statements, etc. in our postage-paid envelopes. [We will arrange to change the addresses on most of them so they come directly to us, once we are underway.]
2. We review all invoices and bills prior to paying them.
3. We prepare checks for you to sign and mail; alternatively, we can sign the checks for you under a limited power of attorney, or make the payments directly using any of several on-line systems.
4. If you wish, we return the checks to you to sign and mail. Stamps are on the envelopes, and everything is ready to drop in the mail. [This is in case we don't sign the checks for you.]
5. At the end of each month we post all the checks you have written, so our reports include all activity in the checking account for the month.
6. We also prepare a schedule of payments for which there are not regular bills, such as estimated taxes and real estate taxes. We send you these checks automatically before they are due.
7. Each quarter we send you a cash-flow report which summarizes your income and expenses for the period, to help you with your financial planning.
8. At year-end we prepare a detailed report listing all income and expenses, broken down by category [e.g. clothing, groceries, salary, charitable contributions, etc.] for you and your tax advisors.
The system is designed to make personal financial management easy and accurate, while leaving you in control of the process. You can spend an hour or two monthly looking at the big picture, not looking for stamps and envelopes.
